3.14.24 Billing Codes and Insurance Hiccups

The surgical scheduler calls back and says the code for the surgery is 58661. When I plug this number into my insurance patient portal, it shows I will owe about $3,000. I frantically google to see if they can do that, I thought everything would be covered. Websites like NWLC.org and tubalfacts.com inform me that many insurance companies only cover one sterilization procedure fully, but they must have exception waivers in place for anyone to get any procedure covered. They have sample billing codes, appeal letters, and general scripts to follow when calling insurance to ask about coverage. I make a mental note to call them once my surgery date is scheduled.
